What's Better For Food Pairing, Wine or Beer? Barrel Republic Oceanside To Find Out On May 19

May 5, 2016

The age old question remains… beer or wine? With San Diego’s abundant craft beer selection and California’s numerous boutique vineyards, the choice between the two alcoholic beverages can be a tricky one. Fear no longer, Barrel Republic is coming to the rescue with their Battle of the Barrels event! On Thursday, May 19th, Oceanside’s Barrel Republic will be hosting an epic battle between Stone Brewing Co. beer and St. Mayhem wine at their inaugural Battle of the Barrels 4 course dinner event.

Barrel Republic Oceanside's Battle of the Barrels dinner will feature barrel aged offerings from Stone Brewing Co. and St. Mayhem Wine that will be carefully-paired with a delicious four-course dinner. Best part? Diners decide which libation wins the battle!

The pairing dinner will start at 6:30pm with the first course - a poblano and Chevre terrine with cilantro scallion oil, micro cilantro and sea salt crackers paired with Stone's XS IPA aged in gin-infused bourbon barrels versus St. Mayhem's 2014 Sauvignon Blanc aged with jalapeno and habanero peppers. Course 2 will be pan seared fish with peach gastrique, braised leeks and an almond crumble paired with Stone Winter Harvest Triple aged in barrels and foudres with red wine grapes taking on St. Mayhem's 2013 Chardonnay aged with peach and ginger. The last savory course will be a lamb duet with roasted herb leg, braised belly, beef potato puree and lemon asparagus alongside Stone's Foeder Aged Imperial Saison and St. Mayhem's The Girls in the Vineyard 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon/ The last course of the night will be chocolate pate with pistachios and coffee stout cream reduction paired with Stone Imperial Irish Stout aged in bourbon barrels and St. Mayhem's 2013 Merlot with coffee and jalapeno peppers.
