OB Brewery Debuts Just In Time For San Diego Summer | Get A First Look At Ocean Beach's Newest BrewPub

June 5, 2016

The long awaited OB Brewery finally opened at 5051 Newport Avenue in Ocean Beach just in time for Independence Day weekend. Three years in the making, the 3-story, 4,600 square foot brewery, restaurant and tasting room is the passion project of Mike Tajran, the owner of Newport Pizza, which sits directly across the street from the new brew house.

OB Brewery offers patrons three floors of dining and drinking space, which includes a first floor tasting room with outdoor patio, a second story communal dining area with retail section and glass balcony, a full kitchen, a five-barrel brewing system, and an expansive, 800 square foot two-tiered rooftop deck, the highest in OB, that offers views of the Pacific Ocean and Newport Ave.

Chef Evan Sabin, who previously held positions in the kitchens at Kettner Exchange, Catamaran Resort & Bottega Americano, is in charge of the kitchen and menu at OB Brewery. Highlights from the food offerings include the Prosciutto Wrapped Salad with baby lettuce, avocado, and red onion wrapped in prosciutto, topped with crumbled Moody bleu cheese and pistachio and sided by chery tomatoes and 12 year aged balsamic; the Rocky's Balboa burger with two patties, red dragon cheddar, house pickles, roasted tomato, red onion, secret sauce, on a grilled brioche bun served with shoestring fries; and the MexiCubano - a take on a Cuban sandwich with carnitas pork should, spicy Tasso ham, house pickles, whole grain mustard aioli, and Swiss cheese on a torta roll served with shoestring fries.

OB Brewery beers will be brewed by Jim Millea, a former civil engineer, who in addition to being an alumni of the UC San Diego Extension's Brewing Certificate program, is a longtime home brewer that interned at Ballast Point and Benchmark Brewing before assisting in the launch of O'Sullivan Bros. Brewing Company in Scripps Ranch. Currently, the brewery has three of their own house beers on tap - Elevator Red IPA, B.RightON Pale Ale & Long Time Coming Cream Ale - as well as 17 guest beers, mostly from local San Diego craft breweries.
