After 25 Years, Dick's Last Resort Shutters In San Diego's Gaslamp

September 26, 2016

A restaurant known for being rude to its diners has just closed for business with little notice to its employees. Dick move, right? After more than two decades in business, Dick's Last Resort has shuttered its location at 345 4th Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp, allegedly doing so with only a couple days notice to its staff.

A blight in the San Diego Gaslamp for 25 years, Dick's has been obnoxiously serving customers low level bar food since 1991. The restaurant reportedly called employees this weekend to let them know that they were closing as of this week and giving them information on when they could pick up their last check. We're not too sad to see Dick's go and hope that the prime space in the heart of the Gaslamp District will be utilized for a more civilized dining and drinking destination.

Dick's Last Resort has its origins in the owners' original opening of a "fine-dining" establishment, which was a monumental failure that resulted in bankruptcy. The owners decided to do a complete 180 from the upscale restaurant motif, retooling their restaurant in an effort to "go sloppy", which turned out to be a smart move as the small enterprise grew to more than 15 locations.

We reached out to representatives for Dick's Last Resort for comment and are yet to hear back. We will update this post when we learn more.
