Pop Pie Co. Nearly Ready To Open In San Diego's University Heights | Pie Shop Set To Debut On September 28

September 24, 2016

Owners Steven Torres and Chef Gan Suebsarakham are nearly ready to unveil Pop Pie Co., set to pop open at 4404 Park Boulevard in University Heights on Wednesday, September 28. Specializing in an ever-changing assortment of globally-inspired savory and sweet pies for dine-in or take-out, including vegetarian and vegan options, Pop Pie Co. will also entice diners with fresh-made sides & salads, 6 rotating craft beer handles, a curated wine list, and a coffee bar with caffeinated concoctions including 2 cold brew taps.

Pop Pie Co. will be a fast-casual eatery with walk-up counter service and indoor and outdoor seating, including a dog friendly patio. A selection of savory pies will be five inches in diameter and sweet pies will come as three-inch 'pop minis', both made with a flakey, all-butter crust. The rotating pie flavors are inspired by San Diego's ethnic diversity and global influences, including the red chile pork pie - a take on a family tamale recipe. Other options include green curry chicken, the seasonal five-spice BBQ pork, the veggie curry, the jackfruit pot pie, and classics like the steak & ale, shepherd’s pie, and classic chicken pot pie. Sweet pie flavors, which will be available by the dozen, include apple, honey bourbon pecan, Mexican chocolate, coconut cream and more. There will be breakfast pies on the menu in the morning hours. The restaurant will also have pre-selected suggested pairings for savory pie & beer and sweet pie & coffee.

"We feel there's a lack of exposure for pie here and it's not just a holiday thing, but a lifestyle a lot of people around the world live by," said Pop Pie Co. co-owner Steven Torres. "And that's what allows us to be creative with it. We pull flavors from around the globe and use them to create something new and creatively delicious. We love testing the limits of what can go in a pie and it all starts with the signature all-butter crust chef Gan worked hard to perfect."

Hailing from Thailand, Pop Pie Co. Executive chef and co-owner Gan Suebsarakham grew up loving pie, enjoying it frequently at his favorite local restaurant, Pie Face, in Bangkok. The journey to Pop Pie Co. started soon after Gan completed his MBA program, as well as a culinary baking & pastry education, and wanted to pursue his dream of opening a restaurant where he could share his passion for baking and cooking. Joining forces with SoCal native, business banker, and coffee aficionado, Steven Torres, the duo realized the need for this unique culinary concept.

Pop Pie Co. will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. For more information, visit poppieco.com.
