After more than a decade serving up hand-crafted sweets in San Diego's North Park neighborhood, Heaven Sent Desserts has closed for business. Downtown coffee shop Cafe Figaro will take over the space and operate Figaro Desserts where it will continue to offer Heaven Sent prepared desserts and pastries.
Started in 2005 by owner Lachlan Oliver, Heaven Sent Desserts offered a rotating selection of hand-crafted desserts made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, including cupcakes, pastries, crème brulee, and everything in between, as well as coffee concoctions. The company was known for creating specialty cakes for the likes of celebrities like the Jonas Brothers and Beyonce, and even competed on a national Food Network TV show, “Duff Till Dawn,” in February of last year. Last year the restaurant moved from its prime, corner spot original location to a smaller space two doors down at 3011 University Avenue in North Park.

Heaven Sent Desserts announced its closure on its website, as copied below. Cafe Figaro will take over the space for a second location and will offer Caffe Calabria coffee, gelato from Bottega Italiana, and desserts from Heaven Sent. There is speculation that Heaven Sent may reopen in a space closer to their Kearny Mesa based industrial kitchen. We reached out to the company for comment but have yet to hear back.
