We recently broke the news that Chef Tommy Fraioli had left Beaumont's in Bird Rock to take the lead at the 10 Barrel Brewing brewpub coming soon to San Diego's East Village. Beaumont's was quick to find a replacement and has announced that former-Table 926 chef/owner Matt Richman, formerly slated to oversee the culinary operations at La Mesa's Depot Springs Beer Company, will take the lead in the kitchen effective immediately.
San Diego native Matt Richman previously owned Table 926 in Pacific Beach (now Ambrogio15) for 4 years before closing it in November 2015. Richman was previously on board to take the lead at the onsite restaurant at La Mesa's gigantic incoming Depot Springs Beer Company, but delays in the project caused that deal to fall through.
"I'm looking forward to being back in the neighborhood and to contributing to the continued success of Beaumonts," commented Chef Richman. "We should roll out menu changes in next 2-3 weeks, and although nothing is set in stone, I think you'll see a lot of the 926 style in the new menus."
Richman received his culinary education at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. While at school, he worked at the highly rated kitchens of the Fifth Floor, Twenty-Four at Pac Bell Park and Kokkari Estiatorio. After graduating in 2001, Matt moved back to San Diego and spent time working at Pacifica Del Mar before taking advantage of an opportunity to move to Miami, Florida and work at the acclaimed restaurant Ortanique on the Mile in Coral Gables. He also spent time at the Nuevo Latino restaurant Chispa, also in Coral Gables. Chef Matt eventually moved back to San Diego and worked as an executive chef at My Place Bistro in La Jolla and Illume Bistro in Little Italy before opening Table 926 in 2011.
Recently celebrating its 10 year in business, Beaumont's Eatery is a Bird Rock hotspot owned by husband-and-wife Dave and Megan Heine, who also own La Jolla's Brockton Villa. Richman will update the restaurant's California-modern menu in the coming weeks while maintaining the commitment to using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.
