Carmel Mountain Ranch-based coffee roaster, Mostra Coffee is expanding its operations and will soon open a new cafe adjacent to Grub Burger Bar at 12045 Carmel Mountain Road not far from its original roasting facility.
Mostra, which means "performance" in Italian, will open a 1,300 square-foot full-service cafe less than a mile and a half away from its main roasting facility and tasting room this spring. There, expect to find a full coffee menu from the artisan micro-roaster, including premium Fair Trade specialty coffee, cold brews, and beans for take-away. There will also be a food menu designed by Mostra co-owner and head roaster, Chef Mike Arquines, who also owns The Lab Dining Sessions. Offerings will include an array of pastries, sandwiches, salads and snacks, as well as a lineup of wines and craft beer, including collaborations between Mostra and local breweries.
"Four out of the 5 Mostra Coffee owners are Rancho Bernardo High School Alumni," explained co-owner Jelynn Malone, whose husband is also one of the owners of The Cork & Craft/Abnormal Beer Co. "Collectively we went to Westwood Elementary, Highland Ranch Elementary, Rolling Hills Elementary, Meadowbrook Middle School, Bernardo Heights Middle School, then RBHS. We all left San Diego for college or to pursue our careers and then decided to come back to raise our families. So much of the motivation behind creating Mostra Coffee was to contribute to the enhancement our local community, the same community that contributed to us. We’ve had other opportunities to open other locations first, but it was really important that we did something hyper-locally first."
The new Mostra Cafe will have a low coffee bar on display so that the coffee making process is in full view for customers. The coffee shop also intends to build an outdoor patio once opened. Mostra aims to open similar storefronts around San Diego in the near future.
