City Tacos To Open Location In Former BLVD Asian Kitchen Space In La Mesa

October 19, 2017

North Park's popular City Tacos fast-casual Mexican eatery will bring its delicious designer tacos to La Mesa, taking over the 1,800 square-foot space that last housed the short-lived BLVD Asian Kitchen.

La Mesa resident and developer Aaron Dean opened BLVD Asian Kitchen at the beginning of 2017. We speculate that the closure of BLVD is the result of Dean focusing his attention on his other projects, including Sheldon's Service Station, BLVD Yogurt, an apartment building with a Surf Rider Pizza Cafe & Bakery, and the ambitious and long-awaited Depot Springs Beer Company. We reached out to Dean for comment but have not received a response.

Taking over the space at 8325 La Mesa Boulevard is the second outpost for City Tacos, a modern street taco shop first opened in North Park by Gerry Torres and chef/partner Eduardo Baeza in 2014. The duo also owns IB Street Tacos in Imperial Beach and teamed up to open Tostadas in North Park in 2015, hoping to continue to expand the concepts around San Diego in the future. The La Mesa branch of City Tacos hopes to open sometime in November and will serve an expanded menu of seafood, meat, vegetarian and vegan tacos, as well as desserts, Micheladas, and Mexican & craft beers. City Tacos is also in the process of opening a location in Imperial Beach as part of Mike Hess Brewing's seaside outpost that is currently in development for an early 2018 opening.
