Del Mar Heights' Incoming One Paseo Mixed Use Development Announces First Confirmed Tenants Including Nationally Acclaimed International Smoke By Celebrity Chef Michael Mina

January 20, 2018

Del Mar Heights' incoming One Paseo mixed-use development and retail destination has announced its first four confirmed tenants. The neighborhood village will be home to an exciting culinary lineup, including Celebrity Chef Michael Mina and Ayesha Curry’s acclaimed International Smoke restaurant, modern organic Mexican eatery Tocaya Organica, Top Chef Dakota Weiss’ Cali-meets-Hawaii Sweetfin Poké, and Huntington Beach’s Ways & Means Oyster House. These restaurants are the first look at One Paseo’s curated retailers scheduled to debut in early 2019.

International Smoke is the popular collaboration between Chef Michael Mina and lifestyle expert and bestselling cookbook author Ayesha Curry, wife of NBA star Steph Curry. The restaurant is inspired by Curry’s and Mina’s individual heritages and travels. International Smoke aims to explore global approaches to fire, grilling, and smoke to create flavorful dishes that go beyond the concept of traditional barbecue, offering a menu that highlights an array of quality spices, products, and cooking techniques from around the globe. Originally developed as a pop-up at the MINA Test Kitchen in San Francisco, International Smoke opened in San Francisco in November 2017.

"The food culture in San Diego embodies innovation through collaboration," said Chef Michael Mina of the MINA Group. "International Smoke came to life through my partnership with Ayesha, and we are so thrilled to be a part of the One Paseo project. We look forward to contributing to the San Diego culinary landscape."

Tocaya Organica was first founded in Venice, CA in 2016 with a mission for better, healthier eating. The fresh casual restaurant serves modern organic Mexican cuisine with a chef-driven menu committed to sustainability and using locally-sourced ingredients. Tocaya Organica caters to a variety of dietary preferences including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free, and uses sustainable seafood and meats that are free of hormones, steroids and antibiotics. Tocaya Organica will also be opening locations in downtown San Diego and La Jolla's Westfield UTC.

"The diverse dining experiences from fine-casual to an upscale experience - and everything in between - contributes to our goal of creating an inviting environment that serves the community,” said Senior Vice President of Kilroy Realty Nelson Ackerly, who is spearheading the development of One Paseo. “Our team is focused on achieving a vibrant mix of tenants that can provide something for everyone.”

Sweetfin Poké is the brainchild of former Bravo Top Chef contestant, Chef Dakota Weiss. The fresh, fast casual restaurant serves both customizable and signature bowls with unique toppings made in-house. After visiting the Hawaiian Islands, founders Alan Nathan, Seth Cohen, and Brett Nestadt were inspired to bring the authentic Hawaiian dish, poke, to Los Angeles but with an added Californian twist. Sweetfin’s signature philosophy - from "Pole to Bowl" - represents the brand's mission to source the highest quality and most sustainable raw seafood. The restaurant also recently unveiled a location in Westfield UTC.

Ways & Means Oyster House is a full-service restaurant committed to sustainability with a menu focused primarily on seafood. Founders Parnell and Jennifer Delcham and Dena Mathe took inspiration from heritage flavors and the environments of seaside clam shacks, oyster bars and harbor houses around the globe to create this concept. With locations in Southern California and Portland, Oregon, and another outpost scheduled for downtown La Jolla, Ways & Means' menu features a small plate format with a bar program centered around an exciting selection of cocktails, as well as a large array of spirits, beer and wine.

One Paseo Del Mar is a 23-acre, retail and residential development being developed in the Carmel Valley area of Del Mar by Kilroy Realty Corporation. The retail portion of the project is expected to be completed by December 2018, with residential units ready for move in during Spring 2019. The center will house two modern office buildings, 98,000 square-feet of retail space, and offer more than 600 residential units designed by TCA Architects. The design of One Paseo will offer an agrarian, country-like feel and will be family-oriented.
