After Nearly Three Decades, Extraordinary Desserts Moving From Original Location In 2018

January 5, 2018

A San Diego hotspot for all things sweet, Extraordinary Desserts has been teasing big news on its Facebook Page since the start of the year, and the popular dessert and coffee shop announced today that it will be moving from its original Hillcrest location to a new building in Bankers Hill.

Owned by Karen Krasne, Extraordinary Desserts first opened in 1989 at 2929 Fifth Avenue on the outskirts of San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. Considered one of San Diego's top first date establishment, Krasne went on to open the second outpost of her concept at 1430 Union Street in the Little Italy vicinity in 2004, expanding her menu to offer a host of savory items to compliment the incredible dessert selection.

The Hillcrest Extraordinary Desserts will soon be forced to relocate, and Krasne has already secured her new location in The Louie Lofts retail and residential building, which was recently developed at 2870 4th Avenue in Bankers Hill. The 2,500 square-foot ground floor space was previously slated to become another location for Big Front Door sandwiches, but that agreement fell through. Extraordinary will be located next door to the newly-opened second location of James Coffee Co., with the space being designed by LUCE studio, which also spearheaded the gorgeous Little Italy Extraordinary. Expect an expanded menu from what was served at the dessert-only Hillcrest location, including a menu of both sweet and savory foods, as well as beer, wine, coffees and teas.

There is no timeline on when Extraordinary will close its Hillcrest eatery, but it is expected to be simultaneous with the opening of the Bankers Hill branch. For more information, visit extraordinarydesserts.com.
