The Barrel Room Restaurant & Mason Ale Works Tasting Room To Open In San Diego's Carmel Valley
May 17, 2018
The hospitality group behind The Barrel Room, Urge Gastropub, Brothers’ Provisions, Mason Ale Works, Mason Coffee Works and 101 Proof speakeasy is gearing up for the opening of its second location of The Barrel Room Restaurant that will be neighbored by the company's first standalone Mason Ale Works tasting room. The company is also opening a bar and restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico.
Heading into the new Merge Carmel Valley in North San Diego County is a second area outpost of The Barrel Room Wine Bar & Bistro and the first tasting room for Mason Ale Works. Established in 2007 with the opening of The Barrel Room in Rancho Bernardo, 3 Local Brothers Restaurants was founded by brothers Zak and Nate Higson, along with business partner and longtime friend Grant Tondro. The group followed up the opening of their first restaurant with two more Rancho Bernardo sited concepts - Urge American Gastropub in 2010 and Brothers' Provisions in 2012. In 2015, the group opened Urge Gastropub and Whiskey Bank in Oceanside, which also houses onsite craft brewery Mason Ale Works and bank vault speakeasy 101 Proof, which debuted in 2016. In 2017, the expanding restaurant group opened its gigantic, 21,000 square foot Urge Gastropub & Common House in San Marcos, which offers seating for nearly 500, as well as bowling, bocce ball, games, a 15 barrel in-house brewery and a 5,000 square foot outdoor patio and beer garden.
The 3LB crew aims to open The Barrel Room Carmel Valley as early as May 29. Like the original location in Rancho Bernardo, the new outpost will offer a menu of more than 50 wines by the glass with another 200 or so by the bottle. The casual-yet-elegant restaurant will occupy a corner unit on the far west side of the retail and office complex and offer a chef-driven seasonal menu from Executive Chef Trevor Chappell, Chef de Cuisine Justin Braly and Sous Chef Brett Blower. In the space adjacent to the bar and restaurant, there will be a brewery tasting room from Mason Ale Works, which will offer an array of house-brewed craft beers for consumption onsite, as well as beer and wine for takeaway. There will also be a menu of shareable plates offered in the tasting room. Both locations will also have a full liquor license.
3 Local Brothers is also gearing up to launch Oso Cimarrón, a bar and restaurant coming soon to Estación Federal retail and residential complex in North Tijuana. Expect a tap room environment with a kitchen churning out seasonal fusion dishes and a concentration on craft beers from California and Baja California Mexico.
The new Mason Ale Works Tasting Room & Barrel Room Kitchen will be located at 5500 Carmel Mountain Road, Suites 113 & 115, in the Carmel Valley area of Del Mar. For more information, visit 3localbrothers.com.

About SanDiegoVille
SanDiegoVille was created in 2010 to report about all the fun & delicious happenings taking place around America's Finest City and we quickly earned a reputation for being a news source for and by those that shun archaic journalistic practices in pursuit of reporting the real story. We are a different kind of news site with no desire to conform to antiquated ideas of how many believe journalism should be. We pound the pavement for our exclusive coverage instead of waiting for permission to break news from the fancy public relations firms that regularly spoon-feed mainstream media sources their story ideas, influencing journalists’ opinions with freebies and fanfare. SanDiegoVille reports fairly on the top entertainment happenings and small businesses doing it right, while not shying away from hard topics and questions you won’t read in local publications where editorial direction is ultimately steered by the sales department. We are a concerted threat to legacy media organizations, and proudly so.
