World Champion Eater Joey Chestnut To Compete At Second Annual Ice-Cream Sandwich-Eating Championship In San Diego

May 15, 2018

Number-one-ranked competitive eating champion Joey Chestnut, known for frequently winning the annual Nathan's 4th of July Hot Dog Eating Competition, will make his way to San Diego to compete at the second annual Baked Bear World Ice-Cream Sandwich-Eating Championship at Petco Park.

Taking place on Sunday, June 3 starting at 1:30pm at Petco Park, competitors for the Baked Bear World Ice-Cream Sandwich-Eating Championship will have six minutes to consume as many Baked Bear chocolate chip cookie and vanilla ice cream-sandwiches as they can, earning them the title of The Baked Bear Ice-Cream Sandwich-Eating Champion. At the inaugural 2017 Championship, Joey Chestnut edged then-world ranked #2 Matthew Stonie in a thrilling overtime win. Chestnut will seek to top his world record of 26 ice-cream sandwiches in six minutes while defending his Baked Bear World Ice-Cream Sandwich Eating Championship title.

"We are thrilled to bring the ice-cream sandwich-eating championship back for another round of competition” said Shane Stanger, Co-founder of The Baked Bear. "It seems impossible to top last year’s record, and we are eager to see who takes the title this year "

Chestnut will face tough competition from other top eaters, including #17-ranked Pablo Martinez from Tulare, CA, #30-ranked Jon Bello from Torrance, #46-ranked Doug Ecks from Las Vegas, NV, and #47 ranked Mary Bowers from Beverly Hills, CA. Competitors will eat for a chance to win $4,000 in prize money.

"The Baked Bear World Ice-Cream Sandwich-Eating Championship brings in fierce competition,” said Major League Eating emcee Sam Barclay. "It’s likely that we could set a new world record this year. But by whom? And what will the record be? True sports fans will be there to find out."
