San Diego Chef Stephen Gage To Open Modern German Food Truck & Catering Service Wölfegarten

Chef Stephen Gage, who left his position as Executive Chef of Little Italy's Pacific Standard Coastal Kitchen late last year, will soon be hitting the streets in his new mobile kitchen. Wölfegarten will be a food truck and catering service that offers modern spins on German cuisine, set to roll out as early as this Summer.

"Wölfegarten is a passion project of mine, which combines some of the German American food of my youth growing up in the Midwest, with techniques and ingredients from my career here in California," explained Chef Stephen Gage. "I plan to change the menu regularly and the food is focused around German American dishes with local and seasonal ingredients. It isn't traditional, but I want to put a fresh and inventive touch on a beloved cuisine."

Gage moved to San Diego in 2009 to attend the San Diego Culinary Institute, where he received a Diplome de Culinare in "World Cuisine." After culinary school, Gage worked at the now-defunct Steakhouse at Azul in La Jolla, before moving on to the iconic La Valencia Hotel where he worked as Sous Chef for La Valencia and Café la Rue before becoming Chef de Cuisine. He then took the Chef de Cuisine role at the short-lived Blush Ice Bar before getting his first Executive Chef position at Underbelly North Park in September 2015. In 2016, Gage went on to take the helm in the kitchen at Blind Lady Alehouse in Normal Heights before leading the kitchen at Pacific Standard Coastal Kitchen in July 2017.

"I felt it was time for me to start my own venture and this is the first step for me," continued Gage. "I will be providing my Modern German American Cuisine at many locations all around San Diego as well as offering catering for private events.
