San Diego's nearly 50-year-old The Brigantine Restaurant Group has unveiled its newest concepts. Now open on Shelter Island in Point Loma is casual neighborhood beerhouse and all day American eatery, Ketch Grill & Taps, and in the adjacent spot - a destination for sweet treats and a pick-me-up, Portside Gelato & Coffee.
In August 2016, The Brigantine Group purchased the building that long housed the historic Red Sails Inn Restaurant at 2614 Shelter Island Drive, right across from the company's flagship restaurant, in Point Loma to transform it into the first location of Ketch Grill & Taps. After a complete overhaul from Costa Mesa-based Hatch Design Group, the restaurant opened earlier this month with a modern, nautical-meets-industrial interior and a stylish outdoor dining patio overlooking the Shelter Island Harbor.

Ketch will offer all-day dining, with breakfast offered Wednesday through Friday and Brunch on the weekends. Although seafood-heavy, the menu will be as American as you can get, with entree items like meatloaf, steak & eggs, and fried chicken. The restaurant will also offer family supper specials, like Spaghetti & Meatballs with salad and garlic bread on Mondays and Wild Alaskan Crab Legs with grilled corn, salad and roasted potatoes on Tuesdays. Ketch has a full bar with cocktails, wine, and craft beer, including options from Brigantine's new in-house Ketch Brewing.
Nextdoor to Ketch is Portside Gelato & Coffee, which will offer coffee and espresso drinks alongside an array of gelato ice cream flavors. Ketch and Portside will also be opening outposts downtown as part of Brigantine's redevelopment of a section of the waterfront Embarcadero, which broke ground this past July. The 42,000 square-foot Portside Pier is currently being constructed at the former Anthony's Fish Grotto space and will include both Brigantine and Miguel's restaurants, a viewing deck, and pull-up, dock-and-dine accomodations. The Brigantine anticipates opening Portside Pier in late 2019.
