Din Tai Fung Finally Unveils At Westfield UTC On October 1

September 25, 2018

After much anticipation, the 60-year-old Taiwanese dumpling empire Din Tai Fung will unveil its first San Diego location within Westfield UTC in La Jolla on Monday, October 1.

Originally founded in Taipei, Taiwan as a cooking oil retail business in 1958, Din Tai Fung became a steamed dumpling and noodle restaurant in 1972. Today, the highly-lauded chain of eateries  has branches in Japan, the United States, South Korea, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand. In 1993, the New York Times rated Din Tai Fung as one of the top ten gourmet restaurants in the world and in 2010, the Hong Kong branch was awarded its first Michelin star.

Din Tai Fung serves a menu of appetizers, soups, stir-fried and steamed noodles, buns, fried rice, and desserts, but the restaurant's xiao long bao options, also known as soup dumplings, are the standout. The San Diego branch will sit near The Pointe in Westfield UTC and span a whopping 10,000 square feet. Upon opening, the restaurant will be operating through reservations-only, which are currently available via Yelp. This will likely last for a few months.
