Brazen BBQ Smokehouse & Bar Ends 7 Year Run In Hillcrest

After 7 years serving up traditional barbecue on the corner of 5th and Washington in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood, Brazen BBQ Smokehouse & Bar has closed for business.

In summer 2011, John Bracamonte and Brad Thomas took over the large space previously occupied by Sushi Itto in Hillcrest and transformed it into Brazen Barbecue Smokehouse and Bar. The two young cooks began their journey in competition on the national barbecue circuit where they earned enthusiastic reviews and, in their first year, won the Rookie-of-the-Year award, finished in California’s top ten, the nation’s top 100, and even received second place overall in the 2011 USA BBQ Championship in Las Vegas. After being tested against some of the nation’s best, the two-man team decided it was time to bring the award-winning recipes back home by way of Brazen BBQ Smokehouse & Bar and Brazen Catering.
