Chef Chris Osbourne Leaves BIGA For Chef De Cuisine Gig At Mister A's

October 21, 2018

After cooking in the kitchen of downtown San Diego's BIGA Italian restaurant for almost a year, Chris Osborne has announced that he is moving on to the position of Chef de Cuisine at the iconic Mister A's in Bankers Hill, taking over the role last occupied by Chef Sean McCart, who is taking the position of Executive Chef of Mille Fleurs in Rancho Sante Fe.

Christopher Osborne was the chef de cuisine at East Village's Cowboy Star Restaurant & Butcher Shop from early 2013 until he departed in Fall 2016. Prior to joining Cowboy Star, the West Virginia native worked in the kitchen at George’s California Modern in La Jolla under Trey Foshee, as well as various restaurants in the Virginia Beach area. In early 2017, Chef Osborne joined Pendry Hotel San Diego, where he was the opening chef of the resort's all-day Provisional Kitchen restaurant, departing the company after his 6-month contract expired in June 2017 to take the lead role at Counterpoint in Golden Hill until he moved to BIGA in November 2017.

"The last 12 months have been Truely a blessing," Chris Osborne posted on Facebook. "So many amazing things have happened in my life. Professionally it was a year that was incredibly rewarding and I have so many things to be thankful for. Biga is a huge part of that and I owe a lot to Tae and Mandy for making it so amazing. That is why it's hard to say that my last day at Biga is Sunday and I will be starting a new journey next week at Mr. A's."

This week, Osborne will be joining the team at the 50+ year old Mister A's, working as Chef de Cuisine under owner Bertrand Hug and Executive Chef Stephane Voitzwinkler. Osborne indicated that he does not have plans to make any changes to the menu at the outset. Former Mister A's Chef de Cuisine, Sean McCart, has been appointed to lead the kitchen at Mr. A's sister restaurant Mille Fleurs in Rancho Sante Fe.

"I am so incredibly happy for Chris and his family," commented BIGA owner and head chef Tae Dickey. "Chris’s passion and devotion have added tremendously to BIGA and I wouldn’t want anything but this opportunity to happen for Chris.  I will be announcing Chris’s replacement soon. His talents, passion, and ideals are well suited to continue BIGA’s continued dedication to locally sourced Italian!"

Bertrand at Mister A’s is located at 2550 Fifth Avenue in San Diego’s Bankers Hill neighborhood. For more information, asrestaurant.com.
