Mad House Comedy Club, which opened in 2011 on the top floor of Horton Plaza in downtown San Diego, will relocate next month into the 1925-era building space that last housed Hard Rock Cafe.
Robert Lariviere, who is also a performing comedian, opened the 200-seat Mad House Comedy Club on the third floor of Westfield Horton Plaza in November 2011, taking over the unit previously occupied by Napa Valley Grille. With news breaking this summer that Horton Plaza was sold to real-estate firm Stockdale Capital Partners to be converted into a tech and retail hub dubbed The Campus at Horton, Lariviere knew he had to either close down or look to move.
"We passed our final liquor site inspection early last week, passed health late last week, and I just walked up from the Horton Management office where I notified them we are moving Sunday, October 28 and reopening November 1 at the old Hard Rock space," wrote Mad House owner Robert Lariviere. "The logistics and timing of moving a liquor-licensed entertain venue into downtown and closing for just 3 days was mind boggling."

Mad House Comedy Club's last day in operation at Horton Plaza will be Sunday, October 28, closing after the final performance of its special 8 Comedian Showcase. The comedy club, bar and restaurant will quickly relocate to the corner of Fourth Avenue and F Street in the space left dormant by Hard Rock Cafe after the once-famous chain closed just shy of its 20 year anniversary on New Year's Eve 2017. Aiming to reopen on November 1, the new and improved Mad House Comedy Club will offer more than 7,000 square feet of laughing, eating and drinking space, with a central comedy room, a full bar, and a greatly-expanded food menu from what was at the original location. Mad House will be open for lunch with regular shows nightly until 1:30am. The restaurant will also offer 20 minute micro-comedy shows once an hour.
The World Famous Mad House Comedy Club will soon sit at 801 4th Avenue in downtown San Diego. For more information, visit madhousecomedyclub.com and check out the menu below.
