La Catrina Tapas & Cantina To Debut In North Park This Week

October 16, 2018

Opening this week in the space that last housed Tostadas in San Diego's North Park community is La Catrina Tapas & Cantina, a Baja-style bar & restaurant opened in partnership with the owner of City Tacos.

Previously set to be named 'Ambrosia', La Catrina Tapas & Cantina is a partner project between City Tacos (and now-defunct Tostadas) owner Gerry Torres and Sonora, MX-native Roger Canez, who owns Burrology in North Park and Sonora Express Meat Boutique in Tijuana. La Catrina hopes to bring a taste of Baja's Valle de Guadalupe wine country to San Diego and will serve a menu designed by Animalón chef Brandon Rodriguez, who consulted on the project. The 40-seat eatery will serve a seafood-heavy menu of modern, coastal Mexican dishes, as well as local and Baja craft beers and California & Mexico-sourced wines. For the first month, former Pujol chef, Omar Ramirez, will be leading the kitchen on Friday nights.

La Catrina Tapas & Cantina will open at 3139 University Avenue in North Park on Friday, October 19 and will operate daily from 11:30am to close. For more information, check out the menus below.
