After 26 Years In Business, Spice House Cafe To Shutter At Month's End

December 18, 2018

It's been a turbulent year for longtime San Diego restaurants, likely due to the increasing minimum wage, rising food costs and staggering rents. The latest restaurant to announce its impending closure is Spicy House Cafe, an old-school diner that has been in operation in Kearny Mesa since the early 1990s.

Opened by George & Nick Stanitsas in 1993, Spice House Cafe was the duo's second cocept after their first restaurant, Stuffys, was destroyed by a fire. The breakfast and lunch exclusive diner has been serving a menu of American classics with a few Greek specialties. Spice House Cafe took to Facebook to announce its impending closure, explaining that they lost their lease at the longtime space and had no intention of opening in a new unit. The restaurant's last day in operation will be December 30, 2018.

Spice House Cafe is located at 9035 Claremont Mesa Boulevard in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. Visit spicehousecafesd.com for more information.
