The owners of San Diego's long established The Cheese Shop will get into the burger game with the opening of Beach Burger, taking over the space that last housed the short lived Krispy Krunchy Chicken in La Jolla Shores.
John and Dorothy Schutz established The Cheese Shop in La Jolla Shores in 1972 and the business is now in the hands of their children Tom & Dave. The family has since expanded what was once a quaint specialty cheese store into a popular sandwich eatery. In 2005, a second location of The Cheese Shop opened in downtown San Diego but that branch shuttered in 2014. The family has recently taken over the retail unit across the street from their flagship store for the opening of Beach Burger, which will serve a menu of burgers, fries, hot dogs, shaved ice, malts, shakes and more.
Beach Burger will sit at 2152 Avenida De La Playa in La Jolla Shores and is anticipated to open in early 2019.
