Giuseppe Restaurants Returns To Come On In Cafe Space In La Jolla For New Concept | Candor By Giuseppe Opening This Spring

February 12, 2019

Italian-born Chef Giuseppe Ciuffa, who was a founding force in the opening of East Village's now-defunt Bottega Americano, has taken over the La Jolla cafe and bakery that he once owned and will install a new restaurant concept called Candor by Giuseppe.

In 1998, native Italian Giuseppe Ciuffa made the choice to settle in San Diego's La Jolla community and purchased Come On In! Cafe. Over the next few years, he grew the cafe's presence to multiple locations that included the Museum Café at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. After a few years, he sold his stake in Come On In! Cafe to create Giuseppe Restaurants & Fine Catering in 2001, which opened and closed several restaurants over the past 18 years. Most recently, Chef Giuseppe was part of the founding team behind the 2014 opening of East Village's Bottega Americano - an ambitious Italian-inspired restaurant and specialty food marketplace that shuttered in early 2018. Giuseppe's current collection of restaurants includes Caroline’s Seaside Café at the Scripps Forum and La Sede event space in La Jolla Village.

Giusseppe has overtaken the space at 1030 Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla that last housed a branch of his former baby, Come On In! Cafe. He is currently gutting and building out the unit to transform it into Candor by Giuseppe. Candor will be a European-style Italian bistro with a bar that will serve beer and wine.
