Ale Tales - a craft beer bottle shop that currently has locations in Albany, CA, and San Diego's Linda Vista - will open a fullscale beer retail shop, tap room and eatery at East Village's new Shift residential tower.
From MIT graduate and Navy vet Claude Burns, Ale Tales is a high-end craft beer bottle shop focused on local gems and hard to find specialty releases that has locations in Albany, CA and within The Presidio Plaza in San Diego. Burns is a food and beverage entrepreneur with experience in e-commerce, subscription models, and experienced based goods. He’s the founder of Noble Brewer, a craft beer brand featuring award winning homebrewers, and Office Libations - an innovative corporate refreshment company in the San Francisco Bay Area. Later this year, the company will open a tasting room and restaurant on the base floor of the brand new Shift apartment building in the East Village. Shift also houses the newly opened Red Hat Coffee, which will soon include a tasting room from Creative Creature Brewing. The 368-apartment home, 20-story Shift community is bounded by the blocks of J Street and Island Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets.
The new 3,000 square-foot Ale Tales Taproom, Bottle Shop and Event space will have a large selections of hard to find craft beers available for takeaway or onsite consumption, as well as 40 taps. The bar will be managed by Denise Dingle, a San Diego native with 20 years of retail experience who is also a member of a member of the Pink Boots Society and local San Diego beer industry groups. The food component for the project will be a partnership with a brand to be announced later.
Ale Tales is expected to open at 1520 J Street in San Diego's East Village by late 2019.
