Little Miss Brewing Expands To San Diego's East Village With La Mesa Location On The Horizon

March 28, 2019

After backlash due to a planned Ocean Beach tasting room stalled expansion plans, San Diego's 3 year old Little Miss Brewing is back on track and has opened a new tasting room in San Diego's East Village, with a branch in La Mesa expected to debut next.

Husband and wife Greg & Jade Malkin founded Little Miss Brewing in San Diego's beer-drenched Miramar neighborhood in 2016. With immediate expansion as a goal, the couple opened a Normal Heights satellite tasting room in 2017 while also working to install a location in Ocean Beach.  Unfortunately for them, residents and township administers of the overly protective beachside community were opposed to more breweries moving into the neighborhood, resulting in problems that caused the Malkins to abandon the tasting room project after already investing substantial funds. Little Miss Brewing also lost its founding brewmaster, Joe Lisica, in 2017. Mike Morbitzer then took over brewing operations but has since been replaced by Guillermo Lopez, who previously worked for Ballast Point, Green Flash, and Stone,

Well Little Miss Brewing has returned reinvigorated for 2019 and has already opened a 1,300 square-foot beer bar in downtown's East Village at 545 Park Boulevard on the base floor of Island Village Apartments. Like its other spots, the tasting room is designed with a World War II flying theme and military-related decor. Each of the Little Miss tasting rooms has a theme that pays homage to U.S. ally country from WWII. Normal Heights is Great Britain and the East Village incorporates a French design.

Next up for Little Miss Brewing is a tasting room build out at 5208 Jackson Drive in La Mesa, taking over the space that last housed a massage parlour.  The beer bar, which will likely open by year's end, will offer numerous taps dedicated to house brews, as well as growlers to-go and a merchandise section. By the process of elimation, it is likely that the design with invoke WWII U.S.S.R.
