Betty's Pie Whole Saloon To Relocate In Encinitas

June 28, 2019

A North County San Diego destination for delicious savory and sweet pies, Betty's Pie Whole Saloon has closed its location at Sunshine Gardens Nursery in Encinitas and will join forces with nearby sister bakery Elizabethan Desserts starting today.

Elizabeth "Betty" Harris has been baking professionally for more than 20 years. Born and raised in San Diego, Elizabeth opened her 1950s-inspired Elizabethan Desserts on the Sunshine Gardens Nursery property in 2006. In 2013, Harris relocated Elizabethan Desserts to a larger space a mile-and-a-half east to the Encinitas Marketplace Plaza and the following year, opened the Western-style Betty's Pie Whole Saloon in its place.

"We are excited to have our most popular goodies in one place, air conditioning, some new menu items, exterior seating...and coming soon... espresso drinks, beer and wine!", Elizabeth announced on a Facebook post. "I am forever appreciative of the time at the nursery but circumstances change... and it’s clear it’s time to move on."

Our favorite - the strawberry rhubarb pie a la mode!
Betty’s Pie Whole Saloon will begin operating from within Elizabethan Desserts starting today, so patrons will now be able to purchase a multitude of delectable sweet and savory baked goods from one location within the Kohl’s shopping center at 114 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas. Eventually, Harris may seek a new location to transition the Betty's concept into, but she is still working to figure everything out. Apparently, the move is precipated by the overall condition of the old building and new owners purchasing the Sunshine Gardens site aiming to redevelop the property.

"We are not shutting the door on the Betty's brand," explained Elizabeth. "Elizabethan Desserts will offer Betty's Pie Whole pies... advertised as just that...Betty's Pie Whole Pies. We'll have some signage to indicate so. We may find another location, we may combine both bakeries and change the name. We are excited to start this new's only a 4 minute drive to Elizabethan from the old Betty's."
