Japan-based super-chain Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ will bring its second San Diego location to the Gaslamp space last occupied by Analog Bar.
Founded in Japan in 1996, Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ now has more than 700 locations around the globe, including nearly 50 branches in the United States. The restaurant specializes in yakiniku, a process where customers grill their own meats, seafood and vegetables over a table-top grill, similar to Korean barbecue. The first San Diego branch opened in Scripps Ranch in 2014.
The second area location of Gyu Kaku will open in the Gaslamp Quarter space that last housed Analog Bar, which shuttered at the end of 2018. In addition to a full menu of a la carte, grill-your-own meats served with sweet and savory sauces, the new location will also offer a variety of appetizers, noodles, soups, rice dishes, salads, and have a full bar with cocktails, beer, wine and sake. The restaurant will also offer an all-you-can-eat option and host weekend brunch. Gyu Kaku's downtown location will be owned and operated by Ryo Tozu, Hiratsugu Aiba, Akitsugu Yamaguchi, and Reins International Company.
Gyu Kaku Japanese BBQ is anticipated to open at 801 5th Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp by late 2019/early 2020. For more information, visit gyu-kaku.com.
