Max & Demitri's Pizza Moves Into Former Berkeley Pizza Space In North Park

June 12, 2019

One pizzeria has replaced another in San Diego's North Park neighborhood, as Max & Demitri's has moved into the space previously occupied by Berkeley Pizza.

The owner of neighboring The Office Bar recently took over the nextdoor space last occupied by Berkeley Pizza and has soft opened Max & Demetri's, a California-style, rock n' roll pizzeria and craft beer bar. James "Jimbo Slice" Mason, who got his start at San Diego's Pizzeria Luigi and worked for the iconic eatery on and off for around a decade, will handle day-to-day operations including head pizza making duties. Mason has also worked for nearby The Friendly and even took a three year hiatus where he traveled the country trying out and working for the top pizzerias in America.

Named after owner Ted Lithopoulos' teenage sons, Max & Demetri's serves a menu of unique signature 18" thin-crust pizzas, as well as 5 rotating pies available by the slice. The restaurant will eventually have a total of 33 taps (currently 12) featuring area craft beers, ciders, and kombucha. Highlights from the menu include The Bomb pizza with pork, cabbage, pickled onion, garlic, Sriracha, onion, and cilantro, as well as The Rocko Scott pizza with chicken, roasted garlic, tomatoes, pesto, and feta or ricotta. The Good Morning Vietnam! is a favorite, styled in honor of a bahn mi and topped with 6-hour roasted pork shoulder, pickled carrots, sriracha, blueberry-reduction hoison, fresh japapeno and cilantro.

Max & Demetri's Pizza is currently in its soft opening stage at 3934 30th Street in the heart of San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit maxanddemetrispizza.com.
