The San Diego’s restaurant group behind such popular restaurants as Wonderland Ocean Pub, OB Surf Lodge and The Local Eatery & Drinking Hole has teamed up with the brothers behind Blue Water Seafood for the opening of La Doña, a cantina-style Mexican restaurant opening at the Ocean Beach location where Nati's stood for more than 50 years.
The former site of Nati’s Mexican Restaurant, which closed in June 2018 after nearly 60 years in Ocean Beach, was previously set to become a new location of Pop Pie Co., but that deal fell apart earlier this year. In came Social Syndicate, which is quietly taking over OB's flourishing hospitality scene. La Doña concept and décor are in the hands of design firm Tecture (Kettner Exchange, Nolita Hall) who will construct a concept inspired by the vibrant culture and buzzing energy of Mazatlán and mid-Mexico. The design will use premium quality, natural and sustainable materials that feel authentic, drawing from the relaxed and casual nature of the neighborhood. La Doña’s indoor and outdoor seating will be accentuated by floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing patrons to enjoy beautiful days while sipping signature cocktails made from a wide range of mezcal and tequila.

La Doña is a collaboration between Social Syndicate’s board of directors and Ocean Beach operators Hoffman Leung, Mina Desiderio, and the Braun brothers (Blue Water Seafood). Debuting as early as this fall, La Doña will feature fresh homemade tortillas and a variety of creative tacos with fresh and locally sourced seafood. The venue will offer indoor and outdoor seating with over 4,100 square-feet of space.
