Turf & Surf BBQ Championship Returns To Del Mar Racetrack On August 18

Enjoy all-you-can-eat BBQ prepared by top area restaurants at the 4th Annual San Diego Turf & Surf BBQ Championship, taking over Del Mar Racetrack on Sunday, August 18 from 1-5pm.

Cali Comfort BBQ & Valley Farm Market are once again hosting the Turf & Surf BBQ Championship at the iconic Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. A Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned event, this year's competition is designated as a California State BBQ Championship by Governor Gavin Newsom and there will $15,000 in prizes awarded. Contestants will be competing in the a multitude of categories, including chicken, pork pibs, brisket, tri-tip, seafood, and People's Choice. Awards and prize money will be presented for Grand Champion, Reserve Champion, as well as 1st through 10th place in each individual category and for first place in the seafood and tri-tip categories.

Participating area restaurants serving slow-smoked meats and competiting at this year's Turf & Surf BBQ Championship include Grand Ole BBQ, Coop's West Texas BBQ, Surf Side Deli, Del's Hideout, Corbin's Q, Scratch BBQ, The Smok'd Hog, Pig Roaster's BBQ, Valley Farm Market, and Cali Comfort BBQ. There will also be live cooking demonstrations, seafood from Santa Monica Seafood, and dessert from Snoice, The Cravory, and San Diego's Finest Donuts. Sam "The Cooking Guy" Zien will also be in attendance doing his thing and cooking up deliciousness. 

Tickets to the Turf & Surf BBQ State Championship are available online for $50 for GA and $65 for VIP, which includes early entry at noon. All tickets include track admission, racing program, unlimited food samples, 5 beer tasters, and exclusive trackside viewing area.
