Cohn Restaurant Group's Blue Point Coastal Cuisine Shutters After 24 years In Business

November 27, 2019

Cohn Restaurant Group's Blue Point Coastal Cuisine has been one of Downtown San Diego's go-to seafood spots for 24 years, but the restaurant closed this week and the space is set to be taken over by another familiar San Diego restaurateur.

San Diego's Cohn Restaurant Group opened Blue Point Coastal Cuisine on the prime corner of 5th Avenue and Market Street in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter in 1995, but the restaurant shuttered earlier this week with no plans on reopening. Word on the street is CRG President & Founder David Cohn initially hoped to close Blue Point over the slow winter months to rebrand the concept in partnership with Joe Vaught, who is a partner of another San Diego hospitality behemoth, The Verant Group (Barleymash, Tavern, True North). Ultimately the dynamic duo was unable to secure a new lease with building property manager Trilogy Real Estate Management, who ended up giving the lease to someone else.

In comes Vincenzo Loverso, who has ownership interests in such San Diego eateries as Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, The Butcher's Cut, Fresh Catch Market & Grill, and Farmer's Table. Loverso has secured the lease at the former Blue Point space at 521 Market Street, and although unconfirmed, it is rumored Loverso may be relocating Osetra into the prime corner unit.

We reached out to Trilogy Real Estate Management, Vincent Loverso and David Cohn for comment on this story but did not receive a response by time of publishing.
