Opened in 1994 by husband and wife Robert & Mary Cooper, Lucy's Tavern brought life to what was once a desolate corner on the outskirts of San Diego's Ocean Beach. After the owner of neighboring OB Noodle House and founder of Skrewball Whiskey, Steve Yeng, bought up the building that houses Lucy's last year, ownership decided it was time to retire. In came Todd Brown (Bub's, Waterbar), Sean Green (The Blind Burro, Moonshine Flats), Ryan Dhu (The Blind Burro), and Pat Gallahue, who has been involved in the build out of most of Good Time Design's properties. The team is in the process of purchasing the iconic Ocean Beach bar with no plans to alter it. Although the new owners all have history with Good Time Design, Lucy's will not be owned under the corporate umbrella.
"We are all really fired up to be part of the OB tradition that Lucy’s has become over the years," commented Lucy's Tavern new co-owner Todd Brown. "You asked about our plans for Lucy’s and their pretty simple, continue the tradition! We will not change the name or the concept, Lucy’s has been a long standing institution in Ocean Beach that we are honored to continue. My partners and I have wanted to be a part of the hospitality and vibe of Ocean Beach for a long time now and this was the perfect opportunity to do just that. Bobby and Mary Cooper created a truly iconic part of Ocean Beach and we look forward to doing the same."
Lucy's Tavern is located at 4906 Voltaire Street in Ocean Beach.
