Novo Brazil Brewing Debuts 12,000 Square-Foot South County Bar & Restaurant

December 5, 2019

The 12,000 square-foot Novo Brazil Brewing bar and restaurant has opened inside Otay Ranch Town Center in San Diego's South County with a ribbon-cutting grand opening celebration scheduled for next week.

The much-anticipated grand opening of Novo Brazil Brewing will take place on Wednesday, December 11 at 11am with a special ribbon cutting event. The award-winning brewery opened in 2015 and last year was named the eighth-fastest growing brewery in the United States by the Breweries Association. Novo Brazil is excited to call Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista its new home to its biggest location to date. The venue holds a capacity of 957 people in a 12,000 square feet space.

"Our story began in Brazil, where we learned the art of brewing and created the most awarded brewery in South America," said Tiago Carneiro, founder of Novo Brazil Brewery. "Our dream was to hone our craft in the US, specifically in California, to learn from the best and put our boldest ideas into practice. We believe our difference is our Brazilian way of showing the colorful culture and happiness of four homelands. We were fortunate to find a sister city in South Bay, named after our hometown of Belo Horizonte (Beautiful Horizon), where we were warmly welcomed by the entire community."

Since the announcement of the official plan to open a new location in Chula Vista back in the third quarter of 2018, the new Novo Brazil Brewing outpost has undergone major construction and renovation to fit the vision of ownership. The multi-million dollar project includes a restaurant with approximately 300 seats, event space, a full bar, an indoor-outdoor beer garden facing the mall's main street, a 5-Barrel Brewing System, two 14-foot-by-10-foot televisions, two pairs of shuffleboard tables, and a kid’s area which includes ping-pong, video games and other activities. The new brewery also features 60 taps, roughly 40 of which will dispense beer and the rest kombucha and hard seltzer. Producing canned cocktails is also in the works for Novo Brazil.

"We became Chula Vista’s official brewery and the first to believe in South Bay," continued Carneiro. "To give back to the community, we decided to invest in an innovative concept that wasn't only built around our beverage expertise but also to provide a unique experience for the entire community. We partnered up with a renowned Brazilian architect, Gustavo Penna, to bring some nuance and inspiring designs to the interior and exterior, a nod to the Copacabana beach's sidewalk in Rio de Janeiro."

The bar, restaurant and brewery showcases a black and white wave pattern on the outside of the building that represents the mosaic tiled walkways of Copacabana beach. The interior showcases a similar wave pattern on the west wall and a sidewinding bar that curls across the facility. The bar will be the longest in South Bay. Guests can relax in furniture fashioned from Brazilian wood, and unique murals from Brazilian artists depicting Rio de Janeiro and Pelé. The owner of Novo Brazil wanted to provide an authentic Brazilian dining experience and bold architecture reminiscent of Brazil’s famous landmarks and cultural characteristics. A small on-site retail section will offer Brazilian products such as coffee for purchase.

The co-founder of Novo Brazil, Joel Tubao, is also in the process of opening National City Market On 8th, an 11,000 square foot indoor/outdoor food hall with an onsite beer bar from Novo Brazil and 8-10 vendors offering street food and artisan goods. National Market On 8th aims to open at 41 E 8th Street in National City at some point in first quarter 2020.

The new Novo Brazil Brewing location sits at 2015 Birch Road, Suite 1017, within Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista. For more information, visit novobrazilbrewing.com.
