March 11, 2020

Opening in the 4,200 square foot standalone building in La Jolla that formerly housed Parachute Brunch & Supper Room is MVP Family Restaurant - a scratch-made, sports-themed eatery debuting this spring.

MVP Family Restaurant is owned and operated by the Kern family with father Edward "Ned" acting as the eatery's General Manager and son Zach its Executive Chef. Ned previously worked in the hospitality industry for four decades and Zach is a graduate of the San Diego Culinary Institute with experience at several restaurants in San Diego and Boise, Idaho.

"We want to make a place where individuals or groups can come in and enjoy exceptional food in a upbeat atmosphere," explained MVP Family Restaurant General Manager and co-founder Ned Kern. "As a family, we spent years traveling with sports teams and finding it difficult to find places to eat as a team due to limitations in serving a group. We want to welcome groups, whether it is a youth sports team, a group from church, a work group, a group of friends, or even a large family. By using quality ingredients and making our food fresh and from scratch, we will create a unique dining experience around unique food and an upbeat friendly family atmosphere."

MVP will be an all-day restaurant with a scratch-made kitchen where everything from the bread to the bacon will be made in house. The family-friendly eatery will have an onsite smoker churning out items like pulled pork and prime rib with a menu centered around American classics. Expect a variety of burgers made with house-ground patties including those topped pulled pork and macaroni and cheese, as well as specialty pizzas, hand battered fish, steaks, and a full breakfast menu for the mornings. There will also be gluten free and vegan dishes, as well as a kid's menu. As for beverages, expect a variety of area beers, hard kombucha, wine, craft sodas and coffee drinks made with locally roasted beans. The restaurant with have a sports-themed design including a wall installation with 5000 baseball cards, as well as tables made of reclaimed wood and a large outdoor patio with fire pit seating.

MVP Family Restaurant aims to open this April at 811 Prospect Street in La Jolla. The eatery will serve brunch from 7am-3pm and dinner from 3-10pm daily.
