After being forced to close for nearly a month, San Diego's South Bay Drive-In movie theater has been permitted to reopen.
Although all other movie theaters in San Diego remain closed, South Bay Drive-In Theatre was allowed to open starting yesterday after being forced to shutter on April 9. Those visiting must view movies from within their vehicle and practice social distancing at all times. The snack bar remains closed, so feel free to bring snacks or pick up take-out from one of the many area restaurants that are still serving. Bathrooms are open.
Opened in 1958, the South Bay Drive-In has three screens and movies currently playing include Trolls World Tour, Pets 2, The Wretched, The Invisible Man, Knives Out, and The Hunt. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $1 for children 5-9 years of age. Each ticket allows admission for two movies playing on the same screen - one after the other. This means you get to see two movies the price of one. The theater suggests arriving up to one hour before the first show, or if you are planning to see only the 2nd show, about thirty minutes prior to the listed showtime.
South Bay Drive-In is located at 2170 Coronado Avenue on the outskirts of San Diego's Imperial Beach. For more information, including showtimes, visit southbaydrivein.com.
