Viejas Casino & Resort in San Diego's East County has announced that it will reopen with increased safety measures on May 18 after a nearly 2 month closure.
"While Viejas has always maintained the highest level of cleanliness and safety, we have taken advantage of the recent closure to inspect, clean and sanitize every inch of the property," the casino said in a press release. "From floor to ceiling, no stone has been left unturned. As a significant enhancement to our standard cleaning protocols, we have recently invested in hospital grade UVC germicidal technology that will be utilized to sterilize the property each day."
Viejas has been closed since March 20 as a precautionary measure to slow the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus, but owners have pointed to California's move to relax various stay-home restrictions as a reason to reopen. Several new safety measures will be imposed upon opening on Monday, May 18. Hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed throughout the resort and the property will be limited for access solely to those 21 and over. Viejas also plans to install signage explaining safety protocols, requisite social distancing guidelines and safety practices, and all guests and employees will be required to submit to a non-contact temperature check before entering the property. Furthermore everyone in the casino will be required to wear masks. Viejas will also be closing nightly from 3-7am for deep cleaning.

Your safety, and the safety of our Team Members, is of paramount importance to Viejas. That is why we continue to exceed all cleanliness standards set by federal, state, local, and gaming commission authorities."
Addition safety measures include turning away anyone showing symtoms of COVID-19, as well as every other slot machine being turned off to provide adequate spacing. Table games will be limited to three seated players. Bingo and Off Track Betting will remain closed. Restaurants and lounges will be open with limited seating and disposable menus. Bars will be open without the option for bar top seating. Pools, spas including Willows Spa, and fitness centers will remain closed, and no entertainment will be offered in the casino.
