After 40 Years In Business, Crab Catcher Permanently Closes In San Diego's La Jolla

June 24, 2020

After four decades perched above La Jolla Cove, Crab Catcher restaurant has permanently shuttered.

Husband-and-wife Jerry & Jean Burwell have operated Crab Catcher restaurant in La Jolla Village since 1980, as well as several locations in Hawaii and Oregon that have since closed. The seafood-centric eatery offered expansive Pacific Ocean views with indoor-and-alfresco dining areas, an adjacent oyster/sushi bar, and an onsite market. The Crab Catcher family operation also included sons Jon Burwell as executive chef and Justin Burwell as assistant manager. There is no word on the reason for Crab Catcher's closure, but we assume owners are looking to retire rather than modify operations in the post-COVID-19 landscape.

There is no word what will come of the former Crab Catcher space at 1298 Prospect Street in La Jolla.
