Popular San Diego Taco Tuesday Spot La Puerta To Open Second Location In Mission Hills

June 22, 2020

A Downtown San Diego destination for Mexican food for more than a decade, La Puerta has taken over the 4,000 square-foot Mission Hills space that last housed The Patio on Goldfinch for a second area location.

Merritte Powell opened the flagship La Puerta location at 560 4th Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp in 2008, and the Mexican eatery has been a hotspot ever since. A Mission Hills resident, Powell has signed a lease to take over the former The Patio on Goldfinch, which was forced to close last year after founder Gina Champion Cain was civilly charged by the Federal Securities and Exchange Commission for allegedly operating a $300 million "egregious fraud."

La Puerta Mission Hills will be a more family-friendly and upscale than the downtown branch but still be devoted to Mexican-American delicacies. Expect a variety of tacos, sandwiches, burritos, salads and Mexican entrees, as well as a full bar with craft cocktails. The Mission Hills eatery is not expected to open until early 2021.

The new La Puerta will sit at 4020 Goldfinch Street in San Diego's Mission Hills. For more information, visit lapuertasd.com.
