Team Behind Buona Forchetta To Unveil Gelati & Peccati This Week In San Diego's North Park

July 8, 2020

This weekend, the crew behind San Diego's hit Italian restaurant group Buona Forchetta will unveil Gelati & Pecatti, an 800 square-foot fast-casual concept centered around Roman-style rectangular pizza and house made gelato.

Italian native Matteo Cattaneo opened his award-winning Buona Forchetta in San Diego's South Park neighborhood in 2013 and has been packing the house ever since. In March 2017, the company opened an offshoot dubbed Officine Buona Forchetta in Liberty Station, which coincided with the announcement of an incoming, 1,100 square foot Encinitas branch that debuted in October 2018. The team also operated Enoteca Buona Forchetta, an Italian bodega and bistro that sits two doors down from the company's flagship South Park restaurant. Earlier this year, Buona Forchetta ownership opened Matteo, a non-profit breakfast-centric restaurant in South Park, as well as opened Garage Buona Forchetta right before the coronavirus pandemic caused a statewide shutdown. A Texas-style barbecue restaurant called Carbón was also announced for 2314 30th Street in South Park, but that project has been put on hold.

For Gelati & Peccati, Buona Forchetta founder Matteo Cattaneo has partnered with longtime employees Luca Zamboni and Giovanni Bonomi. Zamboni previously worked under famed Italian pizzaiolo, Gabriele Bonci, who has lines out the doors of his namesake pizzerias in Rome and Chicago, and Bonomi is a master gelato maker with a passion for producing unique flavors. The eatery will offer a daily changing menu with approximately 18 gelato flavors and 25 options of custom pizza al taglio. Roman square-shaped pizza with a crispy-yet-airy crust. There will be some constants on the menu, but only a few. Menu standouts include the Carbonara pizza with guanciale, egg, and provola & pecorino cheese; a pizza sandwich with simmered roast beef and veggies on focaccia, topped with provola cheese and mixed greens; and the coffee, hazelnut and praline gelato.

Gelati & Peccati is expected to open for take-out, delivery and outdoor dining this Saturday, July 11. The restaurant is located at 3068 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park. For more information, visit buonaforchettasd.com/gelati-peccati and check out the draft pizza & gelato menu below.
