After more than two decades in business, On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina in San Diego's Mission Valley has announced its permanently closure.

"We have made the difficult decision to close our On The Border Mexican Grill in Mission Valley," wrote owner Brett Almquist to the restaurant's Facebook page. "We appreciate everyone who dined with us over the last 22 years. And we hope to see you at our 2 other San Diego county locations in Mira Mesa and Escondido. Given the current economic climate and uncertainty of the long term effect of COVID-19 on restaurants, we had to make the tough decisions and we will miss you all very much. Please stay healthy and safe."

There are still two San Diego locations, in Escondido and Mira Mesa, both of which recently build extra outdoor seating to accommodate guests now that inside dining is not permitted under recent COVID-19-related restrictions.
