North Park’s seven year old Waypoint Public is on the market with plans to permanently close in the near future.
John Pani opened craft beer-focused Waypoint Public in 2013 within the 5,000 square-foot North Park corner unit that long housed controversial The Linkery. Pani also owns Hotel Vyvant in Little Italy and Park & Rec in University Heights. Waypoint Public also opened a location within Del Sur Town Center in San Diego's 4S Ranch area, which operated for about a year before it shuttered in spring 2018.
Although Waypoint continues to operate for take-out during limited hours, Pani recently listed the gastropub for sale at the asking price of $350,000. Ownership is choosing to get out of the North Park market due to continued uncertainty surrounding the restaurant industry in light of the continued COVID-19 pandemic. Waypoint Public plans to stay open until a new tenant signs a lease on the space.
