Mexican & Japanese Hybrid Chain Culichi Town To Open In San Diego's South County

October 29, 2020

Specializing in combining Mexican mariscos and Japanese sushi flavors, budding restaurant chain Culichi Town will open its second San Diego location in the 7,800 square-foot space that last housed Fuddruckers in downtown Chula Vista.

Culichi Town restaurant was founded in 2010 in Chef Misael Guerro's garage in Fontana, CA, where he started selling sushi and seafood dishes inspired by the taste of the food consumed in his hometown city of Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. The blend of Mexican and Japanese styles came to Culiacán as local cooks returned to the coastal city after working in Japanese restaurants in the United States. This resulted in Japanese sushi recipes and techniques being incorporated in the style of the Culichi people. Culichi Town restaurant now has nearly 20 locations around California, Illinois and the Southwest.

Following a location that opened in Vista in summer 2019, San Diego's second Culichi Town will soon begin installing in the ample 3rd Avenue space that last housed Fuddruckers in the heart of Chula Vista. Expect an all-day menu with Mexican breakfast dishes, seafood platters, tacos, tostadas, burgers, wings, vegan dishes, and sushi rolls that incorporate Mexican staples like grilled octopus, fried fish and marinated  grilled beef. The restaurant will also serve beer and wine.

Culichi Town is expected to open in early 2021 at 340 3rd Avenue in San Diego's South County city of Chula Vista. For more information, visit culichitown.com
