A Mexican Taqueria Is Set To Open In San Diego's Little Italy

November 24, 2020

Little Italy has been one San Diego neighborhood absent an authentic Mexican taco shop ever since Mexican Fiesta shuttered at the close of 2017, but all that will soon change as South County's La Taqueria Tijuana will soon open its second location on Kettner Boulevard.

Fernando Montiel opened the first La Taqueria Tijuana in 2019 at 1753 Palm Avenue in Imperial Beach. The eatery offers a traditional San Diego taco shop experience with a menu of Tijuana-style street tacos on freshly handmade tortillas, as well as burritos, tortas, quesadillas, rolled tacos and smothered fried & chips using proteins like spit-roasted adobada, carne asada, pollo asado, and veggies.

Filling a much needed Mexican taco shop void, La Taqueria Tijuana will open a 1,300 square-foot eatery on the base floor of Little Italy's Broadstone apartment building as early as this December. Expect a menu similar to the original location, plus Mexican sodas, craft brews and wines imported from Baja Norte's famed Valle de Guadalupe region. The space will also offer outdoor seating.

"We are excited to bring handmade tortilla, Tijuana-style tacos to the heart of San Diego," commented La Taqueria Tijuana founder Fernando Montiel. "Little Italy is one of San Diego's only neighborhood without a taqueria, and we can't wait to bring the neighborhood something it needs."

La Taqueria Tijuana #2 will be located at 1980 Kettner Blvd, Suite 30, in San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, follow the company on Facebook & Instagram.
