Plans have changed, and the longtime former Indigo Grill space that was previously set to become a Mexican restaurant is now going to open as Allegro, a traditional Italian eatery from the team behind such San Diego dining concepts as Greystone Steakhouse, Saltwater, and Osteria Panevino.
In comes San Diego Dining Group, the operator of such area restaurants as Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, Saltwater, Rusticucina, The Butcher's Cut, Fresh Catch Market & Grill, and Farmer's Table. The hospitality company, which was founded by Sicilian-born chefs Vincenzo Loverso and longtime partner Alessandro Minutella, has taken over the space at 1536 India Street to open Allegro, which will feature a menu of modern coastal Italian food like homemade pastas, fresh seafood dishes and signature entrees from Executive Chef Marco Provino. Allegro will feature a contemporary design with an open kitchen visible through a glass window, a marble bar, a wine cellar, and a Tuscan lemon garden inspired patio enterable through 15 food vintage wooden doors and drenched in velvet, gold, marble, ceramic tiles and fire pits. The restaurant will have a full bar with extensive wine offerings, local and Italian beers, and craft cocktails and Italian spirits.
"The word Allegro when translated means 'happiness', as people walk through the streets of Little Italy they will be greeted by a neon light welcoming community members to partake in this dining experience," explained San Diego Dining Group Executive Alberto Mestre. "We wanted to bring a modern day dining experience to Little Italy, after much research and consideration, together San Diego Dining Group designed this innovative masterpiece that the public is sure to love."
Allegro is anticipated to open its doors as early as January 2021.
