San Diego's Effin's Pub & Grill Announces Impending Closure After 24 Years In Business

December 2, 2020

Ownership took to social media today to announce the impending closure of Effin's Pub & Grill in San Diego's Rolando neighborhood after 24 years in business.

"It is with heavy hearts we must announce the end of an era as of 12/20/2020 we will be closing our doors for good," wrote Effin's Pub & Grill owner ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣Zachary Cotler. "2020 has been quite the year & has made for trying times for our Effin Family & staff, community, & world. With the state of the world, & looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead, we can no longer provide our community with the Effin experience so many have come to know & love.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Instead of focusing on our struggles to continue, the uncontrollable restrictions, the financial hardships & burdens, & all of the other challenges we know many are feeling, we would rather focus on the future & pay homage to all who have made this amazing run so Effin memorable.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ To the staff who have poured their hearts, souls, & livers into the bar over the last ¼ century, I can’t thank you enough from the bottom of my heart. Without you there would have never been an Effin good time had, & I am honored having the opportunity to work alongside each of you⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣. This is not goodbye, but more of 'I can’t wait to see your smiling face soon.' We hope to see your Effin faces before we turn off the lights. We would love to invite you to join us over the next few weeks & for one last Effin Good Time Event on Friday 12/18."⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Effin's Pub was founded in 1996 by William Gowen before being sold to Alison & Christine Binder in 2005. Since 2010, the bar has been owned by Zachary Cotler. The no-frills bar and eatery was a hotspot for San Diego State University students.
