House Of Black Coffee Company To Replace Refill Cafe In San Diego's Hillcrest

February 4, 2021

House of Black Coffee Company, also known as HoB Coffee, will open its 3rd San Diego location in the space currently occupied by Refill Cafe in Hillcrest.

Coffee enthusiasts Andy Itaya, Travis Ford, and Jim Sanford started House of Black Coffee Company as a vendor at the Scripps Ranch Farmers Market in 2017 and opened the first brick-and-mortar location in Sabre Springs in 2018. In September 2020, the company opened a second San Diego location in downtown's East Village, taking over the space that previously housed Bean Bar near Petco Park. The third HoB Coffee location will open later this year in the space adjacent to Trust Restaurant within architect Jonathan Segall's Mr. Robinson building that has only housed Refill Cafe.

House of Black Coffee is a modern coffee house that specializes in espresso and coffee drinks made with beans roasted in an automated, zero-emissions Bellwether Roaster. The cafes also serve cold brew on nitrogen, teas, and a variety of pastries. The new Hillcrest location will also have a beer and wine license and an expanded food menu.

House of Black Coffee is expected to open at 3752 Park Boulevard, Unit 104, on the outskirts of San Diego's Hillcrest community at some point this spring. For more information, visit hobcoffee.com.
