Paso Robles-Based Record Family Wines Opens Tasting Room & Wine Shop In San Diego's Hillcrest

February 24, 2021

Paso Robles-based Record Family Wines has opened a tasting room and retail wine shop in San Diego's Hillcrest community.

Record Family Wines is a woman owned and operated wine brand started in Paso Robles in 2009 by mother-and-daughter team Anne Record and Tricia Record Swartz. The winery uses grapes grown on the company's family vineyard, Paso de Record Vineyard, to produce an array of wines including a Viognier, Grenache Rosé, Syrah Rosé, two red blends (Genesis and Randy’s Red), a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, and Reserve Syrah. The company also has a large library of older vintages going back to 2010 that they plan to offer in some fun verticals and library experiences once the tasting room expands hours later this year.

"Our family has been farming in Southern California for four generations, and this latest venture is a result of my sister, Mindy, and myself wanting to continue the family farming tradition with producing grapes on our 75 acre vineyard and creating a boutique wine brand," explained Record Family Wines co-founder Tricia Record Swartz. "We have always sold our product direct to consumer and started talking about opening a tasting room several years ago. Our vineyard is not located on a busy road in Paso Robles, and considering it is a saturated market for tasting rooms, we decided to open elsewhere. I have lived in San Diego since 2005 and have no intention of leaving, so we decided to open down here! All of our wines are from grapes grown on our estate vineyard in Paso Robles, CA."

Record Family Wines is currently open for retail sales with the tasting room currently only open during the weekend until indoor operations are permitted to resume in San Diego County. The space features a large bar with seating on three sides and barstools made from oak barrels, as well as two indoor lounge areas with two large community tables made out of pine wood salvaged from a tree at the Record family home and a 200-square-foot front patio. Design decorations showcase the Record family history with photos of vineyard landscapes and past farming operations that highlight the people behind the wine. In addition to a long list of Record Family Wines, the bar serves a concise menu of small plates, mainly cheese and charcuterie boards, as well as wine-based beverages like sangria. The company is currently selling tasting kits for take-home that include five, 2-ounce bottles of current wine releases, as well as some customizable library kits.

Record Family Wines is currently open at 1035 University Avenue in Hillcrest on Fridays from 5-8pm and Saturdays & Sundays from 1-6pm. For more information, visit recordfamilywines.com.
