Barrio Donas To Bring Mexico-Inspired Donuts & Tasty Tortas To San Diego's South County

May 25, 2021

Barrio Donas will bring Mexican-inspired donuts and jam-packed tortas to San Diego's South County when the family-run eatery opens its second area location later this year.

Fourth generation baker Jonathan Garcia and his wife Janet Martinez opened the flagship location of Barrio Donas in San Diego's Clairemont neighborhood in May 2018. Garcia learned how to make donuts from his grandmother, who operated a donut business in her hometown of Ixtenco, Mexico, and Martinez is a Tijuana native certified in culinary arts. Prior to opening Barrio Donas, the space was previously a bakery operated by Garcia's father.

The second San Diego location of Barrio Donas is expected to open as early as this fall in the unit that last housed La Enchilada in National City. Like the original branch, the new outpost will serve a menu of donuts made with Mexican flavors and influence, as well as a large array of torta sandwiches, tamales, and coffee drinks.

Barrio Donas is anticipated to open this October at 630 National City Boulevard in San Diego's South County community of National City. For more information, visit barriodonas.com.
