Piña Brings Mexican Flare To San Diego's Encinitas Community

May 15, 2021

Now in its soft opening stage at the 7,000 square-foot space that last housed The Patio on 101 in Encinitas is Piña, a bar & restaurant specializing in Mexican street food.

Piña restaurant is owned by Travis Lester, whose Los Angeles-based Broseph's Restaurant Group founded Brick + Mortar in Santa Monica, Greenbelt in Hermosa Beach, and Bar Esquina in Cabo San Lucas. Leading the kitchen at Pina is Chef Valerie Cervantes, who previously operated a successful catering business called Leopard is a Pineapple.

"I wanted to create something that was elevated but classic at the same time," explained Piña founder Travis Lester. "I wanted to do something with my family that was fun and delicious and have a good time doing it.  With the GM being my Cousin, the Chef being my wife's cousin and the bar manager being a childhood life long friend we felt this was the perfect concept for us all to get together to do. The space is completely renovated from new entryway tile to water wall feature as you walk in. At Piña, we have 2 bars and all the open patio space we can dream of.  We have a 75" TV on the bridge over one patio with an open area to play cornhole and hang with friends, as well as an indoor outdoor dining room that features hanging basket lights and live plants."

Piña currently offers a concise menu of Mexican street food and a craft cocktail and margarita list that features drinks prepared from scratch with all fresh juices and ingredients. The restaurant is currently open during limited hours Tuesday through Saturday but will operate 7 days a week starting in June.

Piña is located at 345 South Coast Highway 101 in San Diego's North County community of Encinitas. For more information, visit pina-sd.com and check out the menus below.
