Beloved Around San Diego & Beyond, Local Craft Beer Industry Icon Nate Soroko Passes Away At Age 39

June 17, 2021

The San Diego community is mourning the loss of Nate Soroko, who passed away this past Saturday at age 39.

An icon within San Diego's hospitality industry and craft beer community, Nathan "Nate" Soroko was a longtime beertender and cook at North Park's now-closed Toronado and a brand ambassador for Modern Times Beer. Known colloquially as "The Islander" and "The Patron Saint of Beer", Nate was beloved by all that knew him and a great supporter of San Diego's beer and restaurant community. He passed away of natural causes on Saturday, June 12.

Edwin Real of popular local Facebook Group Eating & Drinking in San Diego is working to help Nate's family with funeral expenses by deeming July 2021: Nate Soroko Month. Businesses wishing to participate, are asked to fill out an online form and Edwin will create a map of all the participating places that have pledged 10% of the day’s sales to go to Nate's family. There are also "Air Soroko" shirts being sold online with all proceeds going to his family.

Hear Nate's story from his own mouth by watching the video below, and honor his memory with a pint of San Diego craft beer.
