Internet Sensation Mr. Fries Man Ends Run In San Diego's Pacific Beach After Only 6 Months In Business

November 26, 2021

After only 6 months in business, Los Angeles-based viral sensation Mr. Fries Man️ has shuttered its location in San Diego Pacific Beach.

Chef Craig Batiste started Mr. Fries Man in 2016 as a parking lot pop-up in Gardena, CA. At the time, Batiste was part of an underground community of African-American chefs around South Los Angeles County who used social media to sell homemade meals directly to patrons. With $400 and support from his neighborhood, Batiste began dishing out fries served with a never-ending variety of toppings and eventually opened his first brick-and-mortar eatery in early 2017. Mr. Fries Man is now a franchise with locations in the works throughout California, Utah, and Las Vegas.

The first San Diego location of Mr. Fries Man grand opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Pacific Beach's historic Dunaway Building on Saturday, May 8, 2021. We have received word that after only a short run in San Diego, the concept has permanently closed and the location is no longer listed on the Mr. Fries Man website. Rumor has it, the franchisees will continue their lease of the space and open a new food concept in the near future. We reached out to ownership for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.

Mr. Fries Man was located at 4508 Cass Street, Suite D, in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit mrfriesman.com.
